Edward George Landert
My grandfather was easily the best friend I have ever had. He always made me feel like a million
dollars. We spent countless hours
playing pool and darts together; and working together. He taught me a lot about life. My favorite lessons he taught me are:
![]() |
| Grandpa and me in 1989 |
- Get up early. He led by example for sure, and he
would always say “the early bird gets the worm.”
- The sooner you get the work done, the sooner you can play
(and in that order).
- Leave it better than you found it.
- Whatever you do, do it right. And do it right the first time.
He encouraged me in all my interests and activities. Even when I was into activities he didn’t necessarily
like, he would still encourage and help me excel at them. His attitude was if you’re going to do
anything, you might as well do it the best.
His example and attitude really showed me that love and
encouragement wins hearts, not fear and force.
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger's life is an example of what is possible if
you are truly determined. He didn’t
start life any better or worse than I did, yet he achieved so much. I would say that he is the greatest achiever
in the last 100 years and deserves a spot next to the greatest names in our
nation’s history.
He conquered numerous industries. It’s one thing to dominate one industry, but
Arnold has dominated health & fitness, business, film, charity and
politics. He wanted to be the best
bodybuilder of all time, check. His
first million dollars came from business, not bodybuilding or acting. He became the biggest name in Hollywood, and
its highest paid actor at the time. He
helped bring fitness to special needs children and adults, and headed one of
the most influential States in America.
Each of these accomplishments happened despite being told it
wasn’t possible. In every instance he turned his so-called weaknesses into incredible strengths.
Some of my favorite lessons I’ve learned from Arnold are:
- Stay hungry.
- Everything in this world can be conquered through hard
work and optimism
