NO EXCUSES

Trying and failing will get you to success much quicker than finding an excuse to try another time.  If you're not trying you won't know success.  It's really as simple as that.

"It's easier to move from failure to success than from excuses to success." - John C. Maxwell

WHO IS YOUR CUSTOMER?

What 2 things does every salesperson need in order to sell?  You guessed it: a product and a customer.  The product could be just about anything. Don’t think that just because you aren’t selling a car or a pair of shoes that you aren’t a salesperson.  The most important “product” you will ever sell is yourself.  You must sell YOURSELF to your family, friends, co-workers, employer, and the list goes on and on.

Who is your customer?  If being successful means being the top salesperson at your shoe store, then you better make sure you take care of your customer.  If being successful is being the supervisor of a top performing team of game console technicians, you better take care of your technicians.  If being a success means being the greatest dad in the world, then you better make sure you are focused on your customer…your kids.

Bruce Nordstrom said the following in his book Leave It Better than You Found It:

“Every business lesson my dad ever taught was built around the idea of taking care of every single customer, of treasuring every single customer.”

Cranky customers and delightful customers should be treasured, because they are your key to success.  If you’ve ever been to a Nordstrom you know that customer service is priority number 1, even if you’re in a bad mood.

Everyone you come in contact with is your customer.  You never know when you’ll come across someone who can drastically alter your “sales” for the better.  It would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity because you didn’t see them as your “customer”.  So from now on, every morning ask yourself “Who is my customer”.  Remind yourself that you are a salesperson.  Then get out there and sell!
